2021 Rock and Roll Nominees
On Wednesday the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced the nominees for their 2021 class. Jay-Z, Carole King, Rage Against the Machine, Mary J. Blige, and Tina Turner headline the nominees for 2021.
An artist must wait 25 years after their first commercial recording. Jay-Z and Foo Fighters are nominated in their first year that they are eligible. Mary J Blige, Iron Maiden, Dionne Warwick, The Go-Go’s, and Fela Kuti are all receiving their first nominations, but had been eligible in previous years.
For some of the nominees it could potentially be their second induction into the Hall of Fame. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters has been previously inducted in 2014 as a member of Nirvana, Tina Turner was inducted in 1991 as half of Ike and Tina Turner, and Carole King had been inducted in 1990 as non-performer/songwriter.
Other notable 2021 nominees are experimental New Wave band Devo, rap trailblazer LL Cool J, punk rock pioneers New York Dolls, and artist/producer Todd Rundgren.
The 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be announced in May. Fans also have a voice in the Hall of Fame process. Fans have until April 30 to vote for a “Fan Ballot” that will be factored into the voting. You can vote for your top 5 nominees once per day and the “Fan Ballot” will be comprised of the top 5 of those voted on by the fans. You can vote for your favorite nominees here.
The 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony is planned to be held in Cleveland sometime in the fall. At this time, there are no details on a location or specific date announced.
