Speelburg has been on the music scene for a bit now and you may even know a song or two, I recognized Speelburg from the 2019 single “Say Hello”. Now, we’re getting a glimpse of the fun pop debut album “Porsche” coming out October 2nd.
Speelburg has taken me by surprise with this album. I was excited to move through the tracks and hear what interesting and different elements are in each song. Through the album, we hear just many elements used like, playful percussion, witty lyrics, synths, upbeat funky songs, slow and smooth songs and so much more. This is an album for people that like music, not only a specific type of music but, people who enjoy the creativity and work that goes into a well written and well produced song.
The album starts out with “Everything I Know” starting out with a slow and smooth build up to a dance song with a catchy chorus. Next is “Gwyneth (Get Up)” which is named for the famous Gwyneth Paltrow, is a funky and fun song that is a great representation for the record as a whole. “Life In Between” is a slowed down, smooth bluesy pop song that adds to the eclectic sounds on this album. “Lay It Right” is a funky song that is perfect to follow the previous song and builds on the dance songs on this album.
“Crash & Burn” feels like a fun nostalgic song yet completely modern. This is one of my favorites on the album. This is also where I feel that the album heats up and we really start to see Speelburg’s best work because the next song is a strong competitor for my favorite song on the album. “When You Want Me” starts with a smoldering voice intro and moves into a fun groovy and catchy tune with horns, steady beats and fun lyrics that feel like a song you would want to use to hype yourself up.
I have been so impressed by many of the aspects that make up a modern pop song. In “World Is Falling Apart”, I feel like Speelburg is pushing forward from what the modern pop song sounds like. This song is just fun and cool. “Stay On The Ground” and “Can’t Get Even” are cool pop songs with catchy lyrics.
The album takes a different turn with “Entertaining The Notions” showcasing a different side of Speelberg with a sound that is enveloped in a more poetic sound.
“Porsche” closes out with “Kline” which has been one of the earlier singles released. “Kline” is another contender for my favorite song on this album. There is a sense of a chain gang in the beat and background songs but the lyrics keep more of a groove alongside this familiar sound until the song opens up with horns then slowing down with violin. This song wraps up the album showcasing a very talented Speelburg along with the collaborations on this album.
I am very excited to see where Speelburg goes in the future and I really hope to get to see this live someday!
