Carrie Brownstein To Write And Direct Heart Biopic
Over the weekend Heart lead singer, Ann Wilson, revealed on Lyndsey Parker’s SiriusFM Volume West show that Carrie Brownstein will be writing and directing a new biopic for Amazon about the Seattle band. The script is currently being worked on with Lynda Obst attached to produce the biopic. Lynda Obst has previously produced Sleepless In Seattle. The film will focus on the group’s life and career from childhood through the 1990s.
Ann Wilson said, “I saw the first draft of the script, it’s really cool.” Ann also discussed potential stars of the movie to play the Wilson sisters in the movie. According to Ann, “a few actresses have come forward but no one that is right.” Ann even mentioned that actress Anne Hathaway has expressed interest in playing Ann Wilson but Ann told Lyndsey Parker that, “I don’t think she’s exactly right for it.”
Heart rose to popularity in the 1970s and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Their hit singles include “Barracuda”, “Magic Man”, and “Crazy On You”. After gaining popularity in the 1970s the band lost popularity in the 1980s before finding more success starting in 1985 and continuing until the 1990s. The band has sold over 35 million records worldwide and has received four Grammy nominations throughout their career. Heart has influenced countless female musicians along with grunge luminaries Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains.
Carrie Brownstein is a founding member of Seattle band Sleater-Kinney as well as the star of the show Portlandia along with comedian and SNL alum Fred Armisen. Carrie has directed episodes of Portlandia, Search Party, and A.P. Bio. This will be Carrie’s first attempt at directing a feature film.
