Interview with Evangelia
Evangelia recently released her new single “Fotiá” along with its accompanying music video via Epic Records in the U.S. and Columbia Records internationally.
The song is an excellently produced and mixed track that Evangelia tells me that her and co-producer Stolar spent many, many hours working on. I wondered how much of a hand that she had in the production of the music.
Evangelia explains, “My boyfriend is Jay Stolar, he’s the head producer and oversees the vision of all of the songs. I actually have a deep hand in it (production) because I live with him and we work on it together and listen to everything that comes back and we are very, very, very, VERY meticulous and very detailed. Mixing that song took so long and so many versions, as an example. So I feel fortunate that I’m closely tied to my music and have a very close relationship with the people that bring it to life.”
It’s an extremely productive relationship. Quite honestly, some people were made to make music together and Evangelia and Stolar are a great example of this. In fact, it’s already made me seek out other projects that Stolar has worked on and I’ve found that what music that they have produced thus far has as special of a feel as anything I’ve heard.
Although Evangelia is near the start of her career, she has a long term vision. She has used her past, present – hopes and dreams to create her songs so far and if everything goes as planned, she’ll be in a position to use her music as a place of learning.
She is a former teacher and tells me a little about her vision, “I did really enjoy teaching and I’m passionate about education. I hope with my platform and as it grows, to give back and kind of teach in other ways. I find the music that I make and the fact that I blend my culture and the traditions is like another opportunity to teach in a different way. Show people some new things.”
Evangelia is certainly on her way and I look forward to watching her career blossom as well as watching her vision come to fruition.
A live performance of “Fotiá” at The Belasco in Los Angeles was just released on December 15th. “Performing in a venue was not something I thought I’d have the opportunity to do in 2020, so being able to put together this live show weaving in aspects of my Greek culture was a dream come true,” shares Evangelia. “It was also my first time having dancers on stage with me, which is an aspect of my live performance I’ve been wanting to incorporate for a long time. I can’t wait to do this again with a real live audience in the theater (haha)–hopefully sooner than later!”
