I had the opportunity to speak to the great Joel Hoekstra a week after being completely blown away by his guitar playing as a part of the Cher concert that rolled through town.
During our conversation I was surprised to learn that the long list of artists that Joel has worked with was much lengthier than I previously thought. When not on tour with Cher, Joel is a member of the legendary Whitesnake. He also lends his guitar playing to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. That in itself would be a pretty great career but there’s more. He’s cut records with Night Ranger, played live shows with Foreigner and Dee Snider. He also played lead guitar for the Broadway musical, Rock of Ages.
But the best part of all of that? Joel Hoekstra is one of the most grounded and humbled artist I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing. So take a listen as we talk about all of the above, his favorite records and biggest influences. He also shares his care regimen. Ok, ok. It came from a question on Twitter, asking fans to send in questions for Joel. But he was a good sport and answered!
