The new self-titled The Jerky Boys comedy album will be released on Black Friday November 27th via Comedy Dynamics on all audio streaming services.
This is the first album in 20 years and fans of the Jerky Boys have been waiting for this day to come. The Jerky Boys gained millions of fans throughout the 1990’s, on the way to becoming a platinum selling sensation. This growing phenomenon made appearances on the Howard Stern Show and even garnered a Hollywood feature film.
Then there was a gap in between album releases.
Johnny Brennan decided to end that hiatus and bring back the Jerky Boys – full force. Back are some familiar voices. Characters like, Sol and Frank are back but this is no re-do. Brennan spent many hours coming up with all new material and is really excited for people to hear what he’s been working on.
Johnny tells Sound Vapors that he’s been working on this for about a year and a half but that he really buckled down in the last couple of months.
I asked Johnny why the time was right to bring this back. Brennan says, “It always comes down to the fans, ya know? Seth MacFarland, Family Guy creator and big celebrities have been saying, Johnny, man, you’ve gotta make another record! A lot of my fans have been asking over the years. So I said, “f*ck it. It’s time, let’s do this. Let’s put one together.”
So back to work on this project he went. The result is a full length album filled with the hilarity that his fans have come to love.. and miss.
As we spoke about the material, I mentioned that there were a couple of tracks that really cracked me up. So I wondered if he had any that stood out for him. He says, “Actually, all of them because they’re all so different. That’s what I did for this particular record. I didn’t want to force anything. I just let the characters flow and I did them as they came out. I didn’t say I’m going to x-amount of Sol’s, do x-amount of Frank’s. I just let it go. Whatever character came out, that’s what I stayed with.”
Johnny also talked about his experience on the film set with people like Alan Arkin and Ozzy Osbourne. He has some great stories. We finished up our call with my question: “Honestly, have you ever got off a call and felt bad?” Brennan takes a long pause and after brief explanation he says, “It’s all about making people laugh. I never go into anything to be purposely mean spirited.”
