A recording artist will use music for many different things over a career. Expression, art, symbolism, activism or sometimes merely to express what they really want to say. This one of the uses that Los Angeles product JULIANA strives for nearly every time she sets out to write a song.
You can feel the emotional content throughout her new songs, ‘Call It Quits’ and her latest release ‘Burn’. When we spoke last week, we touched not only on the songs themselves but the lyrical meaning and emotion that went into creating these addicting tracks.
To give you an understanding of how personal these songs are to JULIANA, I asked her to talk about how meaningful these creations are to her and what it was like laying down tracks while singing these lyrics. JULIANA tells me, “Both moments for me, they were extremely emotional. I had chills. It was the weirdest feeling because you have people watching you when you do it but it feels like I’m in a room alone and no one is in there. It’s just me, my thoughts and I can picture this person’s face that I’m singing about. It’s super intense. My whole body gets chills and I start to tear up.. with the really good takes. It doesn’t happen every take, obviously. It’s the really emotional ones that you visualize as you tap into that side of your body. That’s where it’s like the out of body experience and my whole body has goosebumps and it’s emotional.”
JULIANA continues, “My producer can tell then and there, he’s like, that was it! You can just feel the emotion when you get into that side of the verses, just singing the lyrics. There’s so much more to music than just the words and the actual rhythm behind it. There’s emotion behind it. So that’s what I wanted to tap into when I was in the studio.”
Some people wear their musical heart on their sleeves and JULIANA is no different.. And I’m definitely here for it all.
We went pretty deep into all aspects of her journey including a trip to Hollywood via a special golden ticket from the legendary talent program American Idol. She talks about that experience as well.
