Katie Cole returns with an edgy new single – Short Story Long.
This song truly has it all going for it. Strong (as usual for Cole) lead vocals, silky smooth backing and harmony vocals fill the song beautifully. A great combination of acoustic and gritty electric guitars are a nice touch here that gives the song some extra attitude. Those soaring leads sit perfectly over a super tight rhythm section that will keep your head bobbing for the full 3:12.
This mix is especially noticeable to my ears. Everything seems to sit so perfectly that it sounds amazing wherever I seem to be listening to it. Studio monitors, earbuds, car, etc. I absolutely love when I notice the mix from any listening device.
Katie also enters a little bit of new territory with the lyrical content. Cole says, “This song has some attitude. I usually don’t write or sing in this mode… but as soon as I started penning this song and it’s lyrics started with “Got nerves of steel or a dozen beers short a six pack upstairs….Man, did you think you could walk back in, I changed all the locks in there”. I remember I laughed to myself and I knew I had to get into full Aretha mode. Ahhaha It can be hard to make light of a bad relationship. And listeners of my music are used to me taking a bad relationship song and taking it to the darkest place. I write a lot of songs to ponder over, heal from and cry to. This song is NOT that. It’s the polar opposite. This song is the one you should play when you want to dump your exes clothes onto the lawn.“
A song like this one definitely leaves fans of Katie Cole excited for the next release!
