New Listen: Baby Girl-”Easy”
Up and coming, genre-crossing pop artist “Babygirl” has released a new single titled “Easy” along with a music video. I’m still having this catchy song replay over and over in my mind. If you have not heard music by “Babygirl” yet, this song is a good place to start. Vocals are soft and sweet. The lyrics are smart and funny yet dark in a way that catches you by surprise with lyrics like “It’s okay if you tear me apart cause that’s my favorite part, the way I fall so hard.” The gentle strumming of guitar, clapping and the brief use of a trumpet added at the end takes this song to another level. Everything together makes “Easy” an incredible journey through love and heartache for all generations alike.
The video is just plain good fun. The song starts with a beat up pink car at a demolition derby. We quickly realize that the love expressed in this song is being compared to the demolition derby. The soft sound in contrast to the car being beat up against the dirty snow and mud is the perfect backdrop for this song as it is about unrequited love and the damage or disaster imposed on the person that puts everything into the relationship. The derby car gets an early makeover in the video then is promptly beat up by hand and by crashing into other cars. The car is demolished and dirty in the end.
Babygirl shows various sides of their personality in this video. They are fun and quirky, sweet and a little bad ass. I love the way that so much in this song and video is unexpected and relatable. We’re promised more songs from Babygirl in the next year and I am excited to see what’s next!
