I talk a lot about vibe and feel. If I had to send you an example of a song that exudes a certain vibe it would be the new track from Juletta + Ishan – Solstice.
Here’s the great thing about music. It’s subjective. So someone may have a different experience than I had when I listened to this song for the first time but I had those summer feels combined with excellent production and soothing vocals will leave any listener ready to put this thing on repeat.
In this business, we often compare a performer or songs to other artists. Generally, I don’t like to do that because I know that feeling of wanting to stand on my own. But inspiration is inspiration. And I was inspired by the tracks’ mood of a little bit of Haim, a little bit of 90’s R&B, and if you can believe it, a little bit Pet Shop Boys. If you get the reference then you know exactly what I’m talking about. If not, go listen to ‘West End Girls’ to hear that incredible bass and hi-hat. That’s what I’m referencing here.
Juletta’s voice when out front has amazing tone and control. She tells the tale of the song and I believe her with every line when lays down. When those harmonies are off in the distance combined with Ishan’s inedible production I found myself having an Opus III moment. Again, go look it up (It’s A Fine Day).
This song has made me seek out other work by these two talented artists. I’m hoping you get the same vibe and dig a little deeper into their music.
