Nashville/NY songwriter Marc Scibilia’s new song “Good Times” celebrates the small things. The stripped-down guitar ballad mixed by friend Michael Brauer (Coldplay, John Mayer) perhaps best embodies his new record’s spirit – a hopeful collection of guitar-driven songs that find peace in the promise of tomorrow.
Though 2020 has been trying for Marc, as he welcomed his first child into the world only to lose his father to brain cancer shortly thereafter, his new album ‘Seed Of Joy,’ out November 13th, contrasts personal struggles with a resilient collection of hopeful reminders. “Good Times” follows the recent single “Tomorrow” which intertwines moments of intimate and intrapersonal lyrics with mesmerizing guitar lines and piano melodies.
I enjoyed this optimistic, feel good, throwback acoustic driven song. The sound of each instrument has such a warm feel. It would not surprise me if I learned that the track was recorded on tape. The glow from the song surrounds you when listening.
Part of that new guitar experience for me is the mix of the song. The acoustic guitar has a wide feel as if it was placed in the center and hit with a hard stereo effect – left to right. It really wraps around your head when listening in headphones. I absolutely love the eq’ing of this guitar. It has a somber tone instead of the usual high frequency sounds that can sometimes overtake the mix. It’s the perfect dark base for this otherwise upbeat song.
As each instrument makes their appearance on the spectrum, I am amazed that they almost go unnoticed as they take their place in the song. That is, until you notice every little detail of their presence. It really is a great collection of instrumentation and performance.
I saved the best for last. And that is Marc Scibilia’s incredible voice. I always say that tone is something your born with. You can learn how to breath, control and project but tone is something that you have – or don’t. Scibilia has an amazing tonal quality and it is showcased on “Good Times”.
He has this combination of a classic singer-songwriter mixed with the sonic quality of today’s standards. Together they make for a current sounding record that really has something to say.
I’m excited to hear what comes next for this talented recording artist. Definitely stay tuned for more from Marc Scabilia.

Love Marc’s sound. Right up my alley. You’re right, great mix of old school singer/songwriters with fresh sounds sonically. Glad to have discovered him through this post. Thanks, Tommy!
