I’m about to make a lot of new enemies.
But the holiday season officially started for me. That’s because the new Pentatonix album came out today. This jammed pack Christmas album has a ton of your favorite tracks from Christmas albums-past but also includes four new songs.
Two of the new songs that really grabbed me are the newest single and Beach Boy cover – ‘God Only Knows’ and ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’ featuring Whitney Houston.
God Only Knows is Pentatonix doing what they do best: taking a classic song and spreading their voices, speaker to speaker with their amazing vocal tones. I swear I could hear Mitch Grassi channel Carl Wilson during this song. Each member of Pentatonix, Scott, Mitch, Kirstin, Kevin and Matt, harmonizes with each other so expertly, it would make the entire crew from the Pet Sounds sessions, swell with pride to hear what they’ve done here.
Do You Hear What I Hear? – is one of those songs I will be playing again and again this season. Truthfully, getting to hear an all-time great like Whitney Houston backed by this unbelievable group of voices is sonic bliss to these ears. When I first heard this song, I was ushered back to when Houston was a guest on a Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live singing Little Drummer Boy. It made me miss her brilliance but also made me happy that they released this collaboration with her. At this time of year. Perfect!
So get ready to put your stockings over the fireplace and put out those egg-nog glasses. It’s almost that time of year* and in my house, that means spending time with loved ones and Pentatonix Christmas Music playing in the background!
