Remi Wolf – Woo!
There’s something about that new Remi Wolf song, Woo! It has so many vocal personalities, I can’t seem to stop trying to get a handle on all of them.. or stop replaying the song.
I can only explain it like this: There’s an innocent feel with the vocals when the song starts. But then she tightens up a bit and sings with a little more soul. Following this, she unleashes some swag on the listener for a few lines. The song gets wide with on the money harmonies before going back into that chorus. That is my absolute favorite part of the song. Finally, you can feel the strain (in a good way) in her voice as the song prepares for its descent.
There’s a bit of an 90’s R&B vibe to the song, musically, as well as her vocal delivery, especially around 34 seconds in. This is the part I referenced earlier:
Your mother kept me hated
She told me that you’re crazy
The double tracked flavor is hypnotic. She places those well performed harmonies in the pre-chorus and second verse. Musically, I love the 808 stick that also gives it that throwback vibe I mentioned. But don’t get me wrong. The production is definitely up to today’s standards in both sonic quality and creativity. I’m definitely a fan of what she has going on.
Born and raised in the Bay area, 24 year old Remi Wolf trained to be an Olympic skier until the age of 16 when she turned to music. It wasn’t long after that she moved to Los Angeles to study at USC’s Thornton School of Music to pursue her career as a musician.
It will be exciting to see what comes next for Remi. Whatever that is, her current trajectory is pointing high in the sky.
