New Listen: Stay Over – Happy
Stay Over is a genre crossing alternative artist that is working to break the silence of our mental health struggles speaking to our modern day thoughts and feelings with their new single “Happy”. This song is a great sounding jam with smooth bass and edgy rustic vocals, the track is giving us a deeply personal glimpse into something we all feel and often do not talk about. Everyone feels at some point that their life has not exactly stacked up against their youthful hopes and dreams. Further yet, many of us were raised in families and a society ignoring mental health as a priority. Stay Over’s Happy is letting you know you’re not alone.
“I wrote and recorded this song in Philly at the house I grew up in,” says Stay Over. “It’s about growing up. It’s about me trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. Trying to figure out why I’m not as happy as I used to be. Everyone in my life used to know me as the happy kid. Then over time I started getting sad. It’s been confusing. I’m coming to terms with it. Asking questions. Searching for answers. Trying to figure myself out. Accepting who I am and being okay with it.”
The beat, the guitars, the vocals all mesh well together. It is a song I would be happy to add to my playlist without an underlying message. This song is asking so much more of me than most on my playlist. I am being pushed into considering myself, thinking about loving myself, how I perceive my internal voice and if I am being kind to myself among all my successes, failures and everything in between. Give this song a listen and I challenge you to pay yourself some kindness today. We are after all, doing the best we know how.
