Steve Aoki | Sting | Shaed – 2 In A Million
It almost doesn’t get any better than this for high quality audio seekers. Take the production wizardry of a Steve Aoki, the legendary sound of one of music’s most celebrated artists in Sting and the energy of Shaed that features the powerhouse voice of Chelsea Lee and what do you get? A mix of great songwriting, amazing talent, tight harmonies and well thought out production that made my ears perk up and my mind take in this soothing but excitable sound. That’s what.
2 in a Million begins with Sting, stationary in front of an illuminated white screen in the video, delivering the first line with his iconic voice. Then he hits that falsetto. Actually, he crushes the falsetto and we are reminded once again of his immense talent. Chelsea Lee then enters the picture as they lay down razor sharp harmonies that quickly move through a pre-chorus that flows into a smooth chorus.
By the time Lee starts her second verse I am completely drawn into the song and try to anticipate what is coming next. 2 in a Million seems to slow down as her voice completely takes over and becomes the focal point. Here’s the thing. I love a great vocal performance but Chelsea does a quick movement on the second line of this verse that is unexpected. It’s wonderful things like this that catch my attention.
We’re getting faster
I can’t imagine
Wanting to slow down
For her, it was probably just another day at the office. For the listener, it’s a real treat to hear talent lay down lyrics so effortlessly but with so much swag. Speaking of swag. Steve Aoki’s been putting it down for years. His remixes and collaborations with some of the industry’s biggest artists and tours have become the stuff of legend. Plus anyone that would name his own label Dim Mak, (what the hell’s a dim mack?) is awesome in my book. Musically, what he’s done on this track is blend his own nuanced style with a pop music formula that equates to having something for everyone. Fans of Aoki will pick up on his crisp, in and out, percussive style as the beat rocks steady for anyone there wanting to lose themselves in the flow of the music.
Alright. Enough with the poetry. It’s for you to take a listen. Remember to put those headphones on. Enjoy!
