Los Angeles, CA – July 18, 2025. Dean DeLeo, guitarist from the legendary band Stone Temple Pilots has released a new project called One More Satellite.
The ten track album weaves its way through a journey of melodic bliss, memorable guitar hooks, and some outstanding vocal harmonies. It even has a few jazz chords thrown in that, honestly, makes this journey even more worthwhile.
In short, it has everything that I’ve been looking for in a rock album for a while.
In addition to DeLeo, it features a terrific vocal performance from Pete Shoulder. His delivery is raw and powerful in the right spots while also feeling trippy and melodic in others. His harmonies are an absolute standout on the record.
DeLeo’s son Rocco drums on “Drowning Out The Sun,” “Willow Mae” and “Spit It Out.” Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz plays on “Serenade” and Brian Tichy drums the rest. Daughter June DeLeo lends a lovely “aaah”…vocal on “Your Call,” and long-time collaborator, Ryan Williams co-produced and mixed the album.
Originally conceived as an instrumental project, One More Satellite took a turn when DeLeo felt a few tracks would be better served with vocals. He sent raw phone recordings to his longtime friend Shoulder, and in short order, the songs returned — transformed with Shoulder’s expressive vocals and poignant lyrics. So inspired by the results, DeLeo reimagined the entire project, and a diverse ten-track album was born..
There are moments on the record that made me instantly want to restart the track and listen again before I even completed my initial listen.
If you’ve ever read any of my stuff, you know that I am an enormous STP fan but I am also a huge fan of the Trip the Witch record that came out a few years ago. ‘Saturn We Miss You’, continues to be a weekly listen for me.
The reason I bring those bands up is because there are a few times on this album that I was pleasantly reminded of each of those projects.
Take a listen to the track ‘Vultures’. It is still giving me chills after numerous playthroughs. Where I get the Trip the Witch vibes is on the overall chord structure but especially on the pre-choruses. Just writing that makes me want to go listen again. I’m pretty obsessed with Dean’s plucked chords and Pete’s wavy harms before the song opens up into that bright chorus.
Another note I wanted to make is that you get a few of those classic STP characteristics but his solo work takes me back to the 2010 self-titled Stone Temple Pilots gem. These solos feel very much inspired from that era in his songwriting. And I’m definitely here for it all.
I recommend an entire album listen but if you are short on time and only have room for three tracks, how about checking out ‘Vultures’, ‘Can Of Worms’ and ‘Paper Over the Cracks’ and letting me know what you think? Looking forward to your thoughts.
