Stone Temple Pilots To Release Acoustic Album – Perdida

Stone Temple Pilots announced today that they are going to release an Acoustic Album entitled – Perdida – Which translates from  Spanish to “loss”.  The new album will be released on February 7, 2020.  There will be a tour which will include an intimate “Evening With” setting and will feature new songs from the album.

Perdida, the band’s eighth studio album, features guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, drummer Eric Kretz and vocalist Jeff Gutt, who joined Stone Temple Pilots in
2017. The band produced the album and recorded the majority of it earlier this year at Kretz’s Bomb Shelter Studio.

Gutt says the album’s emotional honesty focused him lyrically. “I had to let myself be as vulnerable writing the lyrics as Dean and Robert were writing the music.”
Robert says Perdida is as much a musical journey as it is an emotional one thanks the touches of flute, alto saxophone, vintage keyboards, guitarrón and Marxophone featured throughout the album. “I’ve always loved how different instruments can accentuate a song in unexpected ways. Working with other musicians on this album was such a joy because it gave us a rare opportunity to hear our songs through someone else’s ears.”

Kretz says the band is looking forward to not only performing the new songs acoustically, but also pulling songs from previous albums into the set list. “We’ll finally get a chance to play songs from our catalog that we’ve never played live, or in some cases, haven’t played
live in more than 20 years.” Robert says the band is looking forward to finally realizing that dream in February 2020.
“We’re excited because it’s not only a chance for us to celebrate our new album in a special way, but also everything that’s brought us to this moment.”

PERDIDA

The band also released the first track from the upcoming album.  Fare Thee Well – is beautiful both musically and lyrically.  Singer Jeff Gutt writes about being on the road and the toll that longing to be with loved ones, can take.  The DeLeo Brothers, Dean and Rob put their signature stamp on this melodic tune.  Along with his subtle touch and terrific snare work, drummer Eric Kretz fills out the sound that includes a haunting piano.

I’ve written in the past that I would love to hear a full album of acoustic songs the band has included on records, previously.  Songs that have become cult favorites like, Atlanta.  I’ve always admired the way these delicate touches on the band’s music have become one of my favorite things about them.  In a review of their last album, I wrote:  “The DeLeo brothers have a nice way of ending an album whether it be the ‘Army Of Anyone’ album or ‘No. 4’.  Dean’s guitar work here tells its own story without saying a word.”  Now fans of the band, including myself, will get the chance to hear a full record of these melodic gems.
