Brazilian-American artist Talkless takes us on a mental spiral with his new alternative rock anthem “Talking To Myself,” out via Uncomfortable Records.
There are so many characteristics in this song that made me fall in love with its sound. Starting with the slightly overdriven drum track that feels a little lo-fi and thumpy at the same time. I absolutely love its texture. Next up is that bassline that glues the whole song together and keeps my bopping along from the very start.
Let’s get into the addictive guitar sound. If The Cure and Joy Division had a baby – this is how the voice would sound. It’s an amazingly great vibe over the rhythm section. When you create a song like this by putting together these types of instrument tracks, you get a nice reward as a listener. In short, Talkless knows exactly what he’s doing here.
Speaking of Talkless.. Let’s talk vocals. His voice seems to have a star quality. I know it’s hard to quantify something like that but it just sounds like it should be dominating the alternative landscape of radio. Maybe it’s his tone or maybe it’s the notes on the ends of his vocal lines. It feels natural/comfortable when listening but the song wouldn’t be the same without those little nuances at the end of the verses.
I’m excited to hear what comes next for Talkless. As first listens go – this is an unbelievable start. Do yourself a favor and give your ears a 2-minute boost.
