The Weeknd – Super Bowl Halftime Show
Thursday morning The Weeknd announced via his Twitter that he will be headlining the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show.
In a statement released by The Weeknd he said, “We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl, and one can only dream of being in that position. I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.”
Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will be producing the Super Bowl halftime show and will be the second year in a row that they have partnered with the NFL and Pepsi to produce the show. Last year’s Roc Nation produced halftime show featured Jennifer Lopez and Shakira and was seen by an estimated 102 million people.
In a statement to NFL.com Jay-Z said, “The Weeknd has ushered in a sound all his own. His soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry. This is an extraordinary moment in time and the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show is going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer.”
There have been no announcements regarding any other performers, if any, that will share the halftime show stage with The Weeknd.
The Super Bowl halftime show has featured some all-time great musical acts that include names like Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones.
There is no word yet from the NFL about if there will indeed be fans in attendance at the game. It will be interesting to see what the show looks like if there are no fans at the game.
The Weeknd has won three Grammys, eight Billboard Music Awards, and two American Music Awards.
Super Bowl LV will air live on CBS on February 7, 2021. The game will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
