Last week, Tiger Army partnered with YouTube to premiere their latest video, “Last Ride,” Directors Travis Shinn and Jeremy Danger – whose combined credits include Marilyn Manson, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, and many others – worked closely with Tiger Army founder and frontman Nick 13 to create an atmosphere that pulls from film noir and Los Angeles’ Car Club culture, with renowned clubs Satan’s Escorts, Sentinels, Serpents, Kingsman, and Las Doñas taking center stage in the video. Nick 13 explains:
“I wrote this song on an all-day drive to buy a vintage guitar – it started with the rhythm of the road, so it seemed natural to involve cars in the visual representation. Hot rodding and Kustom cars started in Southern California and like our music, are a lifestyle – there’s a lot of crossover between the two. ‘Last Ride’ was also written at night, the directors referenced film noir techniques to achieve the video’s feel.”
The track comes from their latest LP RETROFUTURE which was released on September 13, 2019 via Luna-Tone/Rise Records. Tiger Army’s sixth full-length record brims with the band’s trademark dark romanticism and existential despair – exemplified by “Last Ride,” a song obsessed with the idea of impending mortality. Recorded in Los Angeles with Ted Hutt (Lucero, The Gaslight Anthem, Old Crow Medicine Show), RETROFUTURE saw acclaim from NPR’s Alt.Latino, FLOOD, BrooklynVegan and more. Most recently, Nick 13 was featured in Guitar World’s June 2020 Issue chatting about the album and release of his signature Duo Jet in partnership with Gretsch!
The band kicked off live shows in September in support of the LP with a North American Leg that culminated in two sold out nights at The Wiltern for the tenth installment of Octoberflame, with shows in Europe and Mexico following throughout the remainder of 2019. A West Coast leg, originally planned for March and April, had been postponed until further notice but was officially cancelled earlier this week as the touring industry continues to grapple with the effects of COVID-19. With the safety of fans in mind, Nick 13 released a statement on the decision.
