Clockwise On Fire – Dig

The Philadelphia band Clockwise On Fire released their self-titled debut album on October 22, 2021.  Their lead single ‘DIG’ seems to be on a constant spin on my playlist EVER since I heard it.

‘Dig’ has so many elements and layers to it that I find myself discovering something new with each pass.  There’s funk, groove, stellar guitar and vocal flow all wrapped into one exciting track.  Personally, the first thing that brought me back was the straight “in the pocket” drum work combined with the electric piano.  In fact, it appears that there’s a slightly over-driven electric piano providing the underlying bass rhythm and I can’t get enough of it.

Since then I’ve discovered a plethora of jazz guitars and high flying solos.  Once I was locked in musically I started to focus on the vocals.  The verses are almost trance-like and are placed nicely throughout.  There’s nothing over the top here, just some well put together musical phrasing and loads of swagger.

Clockwise On Fire is the musical union of longtime friends and collaborators Tim Arnold [Good Old War, Anthony Green] and Brian Lynch. The duo, who blur the lines between eloquent songcraft and instrumental fluidity, channel a spirit of unbridled freedom on their forthcoming debut album. On the 8-song collection, mixed by Jason Cupp [Maps and Atlases, American Football, Milk Carton Kids, Good Old War], Tim contributes drums, percussion, synths, and keyboards, while Brian holds down guitar, bass, synths and keyboards, with both sharing lyrical and vocal duties.

Exciting future for these two.  Now let’s go back and dig in some more!
