FOZZY Returns With New Album – ‘Boombox’

Fozzy is set to return with their 8th studio album.  Fronted by global superstar Chris Jericho, the band continues to pick up momentum with every release.  It’s more of a rarity that band that’s been around as long as Fozzy continues to explode after 20+ years of making records.  But here we are.  The band looks to chart in the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for the 4th consecutive time.  Based on the sound of ‘Boombox’ this be a cinch.

The album has some really great things going for it.  I was really blown away at the at the mix of mainstream/radio friendly rock songs and straight up hard rock bangers that are on this record.  Some people see that line about radio friendly rock songs as a bad thing.  Not this guy.  It doesn’t mean that we are getting ‘Arms Wide Open’ part II, it means that there’s moments where the songs are so hooky it’d be hard not to imagine them playing all summer long on your favorite rock station.  But at the core they still rock out.

It is my opinion that a song like ‘I Still Burn’ has the legs to bring in a wider audience for the band.  Whereas a song like ‘What Hell Is Like’ will make them stay a while.  Ending the album with ‘The Vulture Club’ will have them wanting more.

FOZZY

I wasn’t really looking at the track list when I was previewing the album but when ‘Relax’ came on, my first reaction was like.. Really?  But this is an excellent cover of the Frankie Goes To Hollywood track.  It’s still one of my favorite songs from the 80’s.

Fozzy continues to grow and 2022 is shaping up to be a monumental year for the band.  After touring the world and building a loyal fanbase for the better part of twenty years, Fozzy is the epitome of what a killer rock n roll band should be: catchy, groovy, hooky, sweaty, and most importantly: a great effen time! In addition to their own successful headline tours, Fozzy – Chris Jericho (lead vocals), Rich Ward (guitar, vocals), Billy Grey (guitar), PJ Farley (bass), Grant Brooks (Drums) – has also shared the stage in recent years with likes of Metallica, KISS, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, Slash, Three Days Grace, and many more. These five seasoned pros light up every stage they play on with their electricity and charisma, making Fozzy into one of the hottest rock acts in the world today. And with five consecutive Top 20 singles, Fozzy is steadily becoming one of the most successful bands on Modern Rock Radio.

One last thing before I go.  I really like Jericho’s vocals on this entire record.  There seem to be some cool parallel harmony work going on and it really fills out the vocal track.  Call me crazy (and you might want to) but I think he has the chance to sort of be the guy that carries on that Ozzy sound for the next decade.  Before you give me any shit, I want you to go back and listen to the album and just focus on the vocals.  I have and it’s a cool place to be.  And like Ozzy said, there’s no rest for wicked.  No rest for Fozzy.
