Interview: Alex Moore – Livingmore

One of L.A.’s emerging acts is a four piece alt-rock band called Livingmore.  The band is making waves and many people are taking notice.  From fans to media outlets to radio airplay the band is getting songs like ‘Sharp’ and my personal favorites ‘Got Me Feelin’ Like’ & ‘I Know It’s A Smile’ in front of a larger audience.

They will playing songs from their latest album – ‘Take Me’ in front of a live audience on September 19th at the Moroccan Lounge presented by 88.5 FM in Los Angeles.  You can find tickets HERE.

Fronted by Alex Moore [Vocals,/guitar], the band includes guitarist Spencer Livingston [guitar/vocals], Mike Schadel [drums/keys], and Rodrigo Moreno [bass].  They released ‘Take Me’ on May 21, 2021 via Nomad Eel Records.

The bands sound has a really appealing, smooth sound.  That’s not to say they don’t rock out – they absolutely do (Energy Taken).  When combined with terrific vocal harmonies, very clever guitar hooks, melodic bass lines and a drum mix that makes my interest peak with every groove, the band has an extremely listenable sound.  It’s just damn good music.

Along with the songs I mentioned earlier do yourself and go give the song ‘Dramatic’ a spin.  I love the retro feel on this track.  I can almost hear Siouxsie Sioux on this track.

I was able to catch up with Alex to talk about everything Livingmore and learned a few interesting footnotes about Alex, herself.

Alex tells me that they spent pretty much all of Covid-19 recording their self produced second album.  She says, “Our drummer Mike produced it and we were all very involved in it.  It was cool because we weren’t paying anyone to record it so we had a lot of time to do whatever we wanted.  We weren’t held up by and hourly-time that was charging us.  So that part was really cool.” :laughs:

I mentioned to Alex that the sound is so glossy and I really liked the overall mix.  She says, “Josiah Mazzaschi over at Cave Studios mix and mastered the album.  He’s really awesome!  He shares the same taste as us so finding him has been a really big part of our current sound.”

Based on the outcome, I’d say this is a perfect marriage of artist and mixing engineer.  I’m hoping they all get to work together again in the future.

As I was speaking with Alex you can almost hear a sunniness or breath of optimism when she speaks.  To be honest it is refreshing to feel that buzz exuding off of an artist and it definitely shines through not only when she speaks but in the songs as well.

I wondered at this point in the bands career, what highlights have stood out most for Alex.  She tells me, “We went to SXSW and that was really awesome!  I feel really feel excited to play the music we’ve put out and we’re getting a lot of radio support from local music stations like 88.5 and KPRW (99.5) and that’s so exciting.  But I feel like I’m still climbing right now.  I don’t think the biggest thing has happened yet.”  I agree with Alex, the biggest thing hasn’t happened yet.  I feel like the band is destined for something big.  I’ll be keeping my eye out on the band in hopes of big things in the future.

In a strange twist of our conversation I was surprised to learn that Alex was once one of the most popular and earliest memes on the internet.  She was an extra in the motion picture – ‘The Social Network’.  The film about Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook.  She had the ominous task of passing a note to Mark’s character played by Jesse Eisenberg that read – “You dick”.

That scene went viral and made the rounds on YouTube and is still the first meme that pulls up when you search for “The Social Network”.  I tried it – there’s a ton of memes that come up and some of them are pretty entertaining.  So maybe go give that a shot if you’re looking to fill some time (after reading this, of course).

Talk about a journey.  The best part though, is that this one is far from over.
