Interview: Chris Algieri

Chris Algieri

Chris Algieri has been a professional boxer for more than eleven years.  After his win on Saturday at Madison Square Garden on the Anthony Joshua/Andy Ruiz DAZN card, his record is 24-3.  Algieri, the former WBO Light Welterweight Champion is now in position to challenge for another major title.  And he wants it.  He wants it bad.  When I asked him if he wants Maurice Hooker next he responds quickly, “100%.  100%”

At 35 years old you might think that Algieri is getting ready to shut it down but that is not the case.  One of the reasons why is he’s nearly in the best shape of his life and his is relentless pursuit of nutrition excellence.  Algieri has his undergrad in Healthcare Science and his masters in Clinical Nutrition and continues to research the subject.  He makes sure he puts the best foods possible into this body and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Algieri has helped other athletes with nutrition during training including world titlist, Daniel Jacobs.  Algieri launched his new book this week, The Fighters Kitchen – A book of 100 recipes that he uses for himself and the athletes he helps.  Algieri tells Sound Vapors, “These are real recipes.  These are the things I’ve been cooking for myself while I was in camp.  It’s an every man and every woman kind of book.  It’s not for fighters, specifically.  Will it help them?  100%”

Being a prize fighter and a lifetime boxing fan Algieri has his favorite all-time fighters.  We discussed those boxers and he tells us who he thinks is the number one pound for pound fighters in the sport today.  Spoiler alert: It’s not Loma or Bud.

Take a listen to hear him break down his favorite fighters and give his prediction for the upcoming Pacquiao/Thurman fight that will take place on July 20th in Las Vegas.
