Interview: Jamie Kennedy | Preview Of The Series – ‘Coming To The Stage’

Jamie Kennedy hosts Season 8 of the Comedy Dynamics stand up comedy series – ‘Coming To The Stage’

Jamie Kennedy is one busy guy.  He just launched his brand new special – Stoopid Smart on Tubi, which premiered on his birthday, May 25th of this year.  He is active on his social media accounts and regularly interacts with fans.  He also gets asked by pretty much everyone if he is going to reprise his role of the iconic Randy Meeks in the new installment of the Scream franchise.  Just about everyone, including myself, hopes so.

If that wasn’t enough, Kennedy is also hosting Season 8 of the stand up comedy showcase – Coming To The Stage ala Martin Lawrence on Def Comedy Jam.  It premiered on June 2nd, exclusively on Pluto TV.  After its premiere on Pluto TV it will be released on the Comedy Dynamics network (their hybrid distribution system composed of Comcast, Amazon Prime Video, Spectrum, Apple TV, Dish, Google Play, DirecTV, Vimeo, YouTube and more).

It’s something that he’s excited and passionate about.

I caught up with Jamie Kennedy in this interview to talk about the show as well as some career highlights.  I asked him to set it up for me.  Kennedy says, “This is season 8.  Each season has 7 episodes and each show has about two comics and that’s exactly right, I am the Martin Lawrence of the Def Comedy Jam.  I come out, do a joke, host it – Boom!  The new comics come out and it’s a great way for comics to get an early credit in their careers.”

I asked him if that was one of the appeals to doing the show was potentially launching a new career for someone and if he had any other reasons.  Kennedy replies, “I remember how hard is was to get my first credit and I love the company I’m working with.  I liked a lot of the comics we’re working with.  I knew a lot of them.  It’s also nice to host and be out there and build my brand.  I like to do things as an actor and I like to do things as a comedian.  So hosting this really helps put it out there.  And it’s good for me to give back to the community.”

Throughout his career, Kennedy has played some incredibly funny roles.  I mentioned Randy Meeks but he is also known for and gets recognized as not only Meeks but for B-Rad from the film Malibu’s Most Wanted.  But he’s also shown his serious acting chops in films such as Boiler Room and Enemy of the State – The latter – A film in which we talked a lot more about than I anticipated (this is a good thing).  We ran down the list of some of the great people from that cast.  Seriously go give this one a look.  It’s incredible.

He’s done a ton in his career but in speaking with him, he’s not even close to be finished.  I said at the beginning of this, that he was a busy guy but I get the feeling that’s exactly the way he likes it.  I’m very interested to see what comes next for him.

Listen my entire conversation with Jamie Kennedy which includes a look at his arc on Entourage Season 8 and his feelings on the show and just how real life it was.  You can hear it all by clicking on the link to your favorite place to listen to podcasts.
