Nina Schofield
In this business I get to meet and speak with so many talented people. It’s a treat to listen to them speak about their lives and the music or films they create. An added bonus is when the conversation flows so well, it’s almost like talking to a long lost friend. I’m so fortunate that this has happened more than a few times. My conversation with Nina Schofield is another example of this. Even though we live an ocean apart, we have a common ground of music and our chat flowed as easy as the water that separates our two countries. (U.S.A./U.K.) Music has that type of power that binds people together from all over the world.
Nina stays incredibly busy as tells me that she uploads new videos to her ever growing YouTube Channel, three times a week! Let me tell you – the amount of editing needed to keep up that sort of schedule is a bit more than a full time job. But she does it and the views and subscribers keep piling up. (Do yourself a favor and go sub right now – you’ll thank me later) She also has a Thriving music career. Two of her latest singles, ‘Thriving’ and ‘My Life’ have such a great sound both vocally and production-wise, it’s no wonder that her fans are enjoying both aspects of her career.
I asked Nina where she recorded My Life and she tells Sound Vapors, “That was recorded in Stockholm in Sweden. I took a trip out, a couple of trips out, actually, to Stockholm to work with a team called “Family Stockholm” who are an incredible, talented bunch of writers and producers. They’ve worked with everyone from One Direction to Paloma Faith and loads of different people and I kind of felt in really safe hands with them.” The top notch production is obvious and so is her voice. I asked Nina about her first recollection of wanting to have music as a career. She says, “I remember being in the playground when I was really young and realizing, oh you can actually do music as a job?? I didn’t even think that. You know how people ask you about what you want to do when you grow up and you say a lawyer or a teacher or whatever and then it suddenly dawned on me, I can be a musician. I felt it in my bones from that point and everything I did from then on was geared towards music.”
Both Nina and I also share a Stewart Copeland story, strangely enough. But I’ve decided to start using hers in conversation instead of mine. (trust me, it’s cooler) You can hear all about that and much, much more including both of us travelling to New York City to participate in a documentary about Grace VanderWaal. This jammed packed podcast goes nearly an hour. But the time just flew by and quite honestly could’ve gone on longer. Hopefully we’ll get Nina back on the show in the near future!
