Interview: Terri Nunn – Berlin

Terri Nunn has lived an exciting an unbelievably interesting life.  Few people would turn down a seven year contract to be on one of the biggest shows in television history – Dallas.  Terri did it.  How many people would miss out on an opportunity to share the screen with Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones to continue their music career?  Terri did.  The ambitious Nunn passed on these things and more to pursue a career in the music industry.  In 1986 she reached the pinnacle every artist dreams of reaching.  A number one hit.  Take My Breath Away was a monster hit for the band Berlin and Terri tells Sound Vapors that it’s still one of the songs that people respond to most during a Berlin concert.

It was featured in the number one film of 1986, Top Gun.  If you’ve seen the film you know exactly the scene it was used in.  It’s probably one of the most iconic love scenes to come out of the 1980’s.  Didn’t need to be risque and show a lot of skin.  The mood was set by the song, Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis.  Clever camera angles then assisted in bringing to this romantic moment in the movie to life.  I asked Terri if it was going to be used in the upcoming sequel, Top Gun Maverick, which is scheduled to be released in 2020.  She says, “I don’t know!  I don’t if they’ve finished the music.  I do know that my team talk to them.  I would to do anything for them… I don’t know if they’ve made any decisions but yeah I’m there.”

Terri Nunn and Berlin are still going strong today.  They have a brand new album coming out on August 2, 2019 entitled Transcendance.  This ten track album features the title track, Show Me Tonight and a re-recorded version of their controversial 1982 hit Sex (I’m A…).  It’s on the title track, Transcendance that Terri tells us the emotional but enlightening story behind the song.  Terri says, “It was inspired by my Mom and we were close enough.. very close and I was able to ask her, what is it like to be letting go right now?  This is a week before she actually passed.  I wrote the song based on what she told me.”

To say this was an interesting interview would be an understatement.  It’s probably one of the most interesting interviews I’ve ever conducted.  You’ll want to hit one of the links below to listen to our full conversation.  There’s plenty more inside.  We even talk a little Star Wars and Princess Leia!  So take a listen and hear more from the super interesting life of Terri Nunn.
