Interview: The Sherlocks

The Sherlocks have another Top 20 album in the U.K.  Their second record to do so.  Under Your Sky was released October 4th via BMG and fans of the band have been overwhelming in their response to the group’s second album.  Go take a peak at their social accounts and you’ll find plenty of people happily listening and supporting the band.

The group – made up of two sets of brothers (vocalist/guitarist Kiaran Crook and drummer Brandon Crook; bassist Andy Davidson and guitarist Josh Davidson), has been touring all over Europe and are expected to announce U.S. dates soon.  So stay tuned for that.

I was able to correspond with the Brandon Crook to talk about the new album.  Here’s our Q&A below:

Sound Vapors: Your album Under Your Sky comes out on October 4th via BMG.  Can you take us into the writing process for the album?  How long did you take to write it and is there any underlying theme associated with it?

Brandon: We started writing the album as soon as we got out of the studio recording our debut, Kiaran is constantly writing. We also already had songs left over from the first album which we knew were more suited to the second album.”

SV: Can you tell us about recording with producer James Skelly?  Does stick to a tight schedule or does he let things happen sort of naturally?

Brandon: The recorded process was completely different for us, we recorded the first album in the middle of nowhere in Wales, this one was done in Liverpool city centre. He kept a fairly tight schedule we worked from 10 till around six everyday but they were solid working hours none stop. The fact that we were in the city gave us chance for a piss up when we needed it.

SV: Was this your first time in Parr Street Studios and how was the overall experience there?

Brandon: Yes it was our first time it is an amazing studio with a great vibe, we thoroughly enjoyed it overall and the people were extremely nice.

SV: Which song on the album, if the listener only had one to listen to, would you send them to play right now?

Brandon: It would have to be ‘Under Your Sky’ I think it sums the album up perfectly.

SV: Where are some of your favorite places to play while on tour?

Brandon: We love our northern gigs because of the crazy fans, but equally love playing in foreign countries because you never know what to expect, it keeps you on your toes.

SV: Do you try to meet with fans after the shows or connect with them via social media?

Brandon: We love meeting our fans if we’re playing an intimate show we always stand and chat to everyone, after every big show if there is anyone waiting we always go out and meet them/take photos. We also interact everyday via social media with fans.

SV: I’m loving the video for NYC (Sing It Loud) – Looks like you guys had a great time making it.  Whose idea was it to make it a fun Late Show video?

Brandon: We saw previous work by the company that did it and asked them to come up with some ideas that incorporate NYC as a theme and as soon as we saw this idea we loved it and our friend Thomas Turgoose jumped at the chance to be involved.
