Legendary drummer – Ginger Baker – has died at the age of 80

Cream

There are many words to describe Ginger Baker’s impact on the music world.  Legend, genius, pioneer – and they are all accurate.  Many people will also remember Baker as the first real superstar drummer in rock music (although I doubt anyone would’ve said that to him directly).  His use of double bass drums and epic drum solo’s gave him an aura of iconic status.  Even if the world didn’t actually know back then, they were spot on with those feelings.

Baker formed the band Cream with bassist Jack Bruce and guitarist Eric Clapton in 1966.  The released four albums – take your pic and you will not be disappointed, in my opinion.  He also formed and played with many other bands and musicians.  Bands and artists like super-group, Blind Faith, Fela Kuti, Masters of Reality and the Ginger Baker Trio among many others.

The Guardian reported in September that Baker was critically ill and today Ginger Baker passed away at the age of 80.  He will be remembered for being a wild man – not only on the drums but also in life.  The man definitely chose to live life to the fullest and his status as one of the most influential drummers to ever to sit behind the drum kit is safe and will live on forever.  Rest in peace – August 19, 1939 – October 6, 2019.

Below is my personal favorite Cream song.  Sunshine Of Your Love.
