St. Vincent – Daddy’s Home
Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) has announced that she will be releasing her sixth album titled ‘Daddy’s Home’. The album is due out May 14 and will be released via Loma Vista. Along with the album announcement the first single “Pay Your Way In Pain” was also released. Bill Benz who previously directed Annie in The Nowhere Inn with Carrie Brownstein directed the video for “Pay Your Way In Pain”. You can check out the video for “Pay Your Way In Pain” below.
Annie co-produced ‘Daddy’s Home’ with Jack Antonoff who also produced the last St. Vincent album ‘MASSEDUCTION’. ‘MASSEDUCTION’ won two Grammys in 2019 for Best Recording Package and Best Rock Song for the title track. Besides working with St. Vincent, Antonoff has worked on projects with Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey. Along with Antonoff, ‘Daddy’s Home’ also had contributions from Laura Sisk, Cian Riordan, and Chris Gehringer.
A press release described the creation and motivation behind ‘Daddy’s Home’:
“In the winter of 2019, as MASSEDUCTION’s title track won the Grammy for Best Rock Song and the album won Best Recording Package, St. Vincent’s father was released from prison. She began writing the songs that would become Daddy’s Home, closing the loop on a journey that began with his incarceration in 2010, and ultimately led her back to the vinyl her dad had introduced her to during her childhood. The records she has probably listened to more than any other music in her entire life. Music made in sepia-toned downtown New York from 1971-1975.”
