New Listen: HARLOE – Rivers Run Dry

HARLOE knows a thing or two about writing hit songs and being nominated for a Grammy Award.  She’s produced and written songs for artists like Charlie XCX, JoJo, ZAYN and Brittney Spears.  She also received a Grammy nomination for co-writing and co-producing Kelly Clarkson’s latest release – Meaning Of Life.  After hearing her new song Rivers Run Dry, I think it’s time the world gets to know her as a hit-making artist in addition to a Grammy nominated producer and songwriter.

HARLOE has had singles in the past that have garnered much attention but her newest single grabbed me in a different way than those prior releases.  Truth is, I’m a fan of the tone of her voice and she could probably read the dictionary and I’d still have my ears wide open to make sure I heard every word.  But with Rivers Run Dry – she grabbed that place inside of me that yearns for that sweet sound of artists like Lisa Stansfield, or an early version of Mariah Carey.  Before you freak out and think I’m comparing singing styles – take a second.  What I’m proposing is that slow swing and passion that those songs brought to my speakers.  Combined with HARLOE’s vocal style and emotional songwriting, the song’s production is current and has a big feel to it.  To put it frankly, I’ve missed this sort of songwriting and I’m ready to hear more.

It’s almost a comforting, familiar feeling while still sounding fresh.  Not an easy thing to accomplish but HARLOE has managed to do just that.  Take a listen below.  You might find yourself doing the same thing I did when it was over: Starting it again for another listen.
