New Listen: Last Letters – You Swore

Last Letters has released the brand new track – “You Swore” out August 21 via Old Sport Records (Brooklyn, NY).  This energetic track has a few layers that my ears were happy to explore.  Flanked by a couple of great sounding guitars, the song gets set in motion when the drums played by Aaron Gillespie (Underoath, The Almost) make their presence known with a quick snare and runaway train rhythm.

Last Letters gives it everything he’s got on this track, vocally.  There are moments where you can feel the strain in his voice as his emotions seems to be spewing out over the microphone.  These are the good things I love to see a vocalist do.  It’s the equivalent of saying exactly what is on your mind.

After previewing the song a few times I started to formulate the best way that I could describe this projects’ sound.  Here’s what I came up with.  “You Swore” is one part Tom DeLong (Blink 182), one part The Edge (U2), one part rock backbone and one part emotion.  Not bad, right?  I know on paper it doesn’t sound like a likely combination but when all mixed together it just works.  Go take a listen for yourself and see if you agree.
