New Listen: Lettuce – House Of Lett

Lettuce – House Of Lett

The band Lettuce is gearing up to release their seventh studio album – Resonate, out May 8th via Round Hill Records, the GRAMMY-nominated funk-jazz-soul-hip-hop-psychedelic-jam-experimental titans have released ‘House of Lett,’ the latest single off the forthcoming collection.

This song has me experiencing multiple emotions every time I hear it.  The House of Lett intro gives me those, sit in the corner of a jazz club and sip my beverage-of-choice on the rocks, vibes.  Total drink slowly and watch the people around you mode.  Even as the snare rolls in and the brass starts to make its entrance over a precisely plucked guitar and trance-like organ, I still feel the urge to sit, albeit gradually, starting to move my head back and forth.

Then.  Those.  Horns.  Let’s get it up and become one of the watched and let someone else sit out of sight and watch us mingle.  Around the 1:50 mark the song blasts off and we are in full sway mode and the sweet sound of the trumpet takes its place in the fore-front.  As the midpoint approaches the song resets and the funky groove, held down by the bass guitar, drums and electric guitar keeps the party moving.

“Some of us like to freak out with our beaks out, take off our shoes and get lost in the music until we enter another dimension,” shares bassist Erick “Jesus” Coomes. “So, we did this song in honor of all the ravers, dancers, DJs, lettucepartygoing sandy-feet-dancing desert dwellers, house loving people of all ethnicities, walks of life and ages…and mainly, mainly, mainly for the LOVE. Peace Love Unity and Respect.”

I’ve already made my way back to my little table in the corner and ordered another round but my attention is not lost.  This time it’s solely on the music and I continue on with my night completely content.  Thanks for the inspiration, Lettuce.  This is how it’s done.

Now, your experience might be a little different but that’s the thing..  It’s all about the experience and when people make music like this, so expertly and intentional, it’s hard not to feel a plethora of emotions.  I suggest you put on the record and go have an experience for yourself.
