Song Review: NOTD + Astrid S – I Don’t Know Why
Some collabs just seem so perfect that is makes the end result look entirely too easy. In the case of NOTD and Astrid S, their work together on the song ‘I Don’t Know Why’, is a match made in heaven.
NOTD flex their production muscles on this upbeat and energetic track. The song starts with a staccato rhythm and seamlessly flows into an intoxicating bass line and kick drum. It brings a fun party vibe and a completely chill feeling at the same time. It would be a worthy instrumental to any summer soundtrack.
That is until you are reminded of the undeniable voice of Astrid S. Her vocals have a sunny shimmer to them as she jumps in and out of the verses before she lets her voice soar in the pre-choruses. We are then treated to a chorus that feels like it was built to be sung on, repeat, by NOTD + Astrid S fans long after the actual song has stopped playing.
Like I said earlier – this is a dream combination especially of music and vocal performance. My hope is that we are in store for many more collaborations between the two parties.
NOTD commented, “We’ve always been huge fans of Astrid and have wanted to collaborate on a song together for a long time. We have crossed paths many times before, and “I Don’t Know Why” finally felt like the perfect song to do together. 2019 was a huge year for us, and since then, we’ve taken the time to figure out what the next chapter of NOTD sounds like. We can’t wait for people to hear this one and all of the other records we have lined up for 2020.”
“I’ve been friends with Tobi and Sam for a little while now, and we’ve always wanted to do a song together,” adds Astrid S. “I was so happy when they sent me this song, which I think is perfect for the summer! I hope we’ll be able to write something together one day.”
