As the guitar world gets ready for Orianthi’s new album, “O” to drop on November 6th, via Frontiers Music SRL, fans got a special treat on Friday with the release of the new song and video – “Impulsive“.

Ever since my conversation with Orianthi in March of this year, I have been eagerly anticipating the album after we talked about the production of the full length album which was produced by Marti Frederiksen.

I’ll be honest.  This first single is more than I anticipated.  What I mean is, Impulsive combines those terrific pop sensibilities in songs like “Better With You” with some of those legendary guitars players that have influenced Orianthi Panagaris’ sound.  Many of which she has shared the stage and recording studio with.

From the songs’ fuzzy bass-line opening to the just more than slight over-driven guitars to a nice rhythm on the drums, it gave me a throwback vibe.  There’s just a feeling that only going b to a-flat can give you.  As she walks it back up, the song has a blues personality to compliment that pop sensibility I mentioned earlier.

Her vocal is equally as impressive.  I am absolutely in love with the way her voice sounds in the mix.  It feels like a combination of aggressive compression and just a sprinkle of overdrive.  Amazing harmonies set up her seductive and confident chorus.  By the time we’re into the second verse it hits me that this is my favorite vocal performance I’ve ever heard from Orianthi.  The way the harmony vocal is carried into that second verse is a production aspect that should not get overlooked.  It keeps the song arching upward the whole time.

In short – this is my favorite song she has ever released and my anticipation for “O” has been greatly increased after hearing this one (more than a few times).

This song has got it all and is a great segue into the fall lineup of music to come.  Do yourself a favor and get some ears on this one.  You won’t be disappointed.
