Jacob Collier – Time Alone With You Ft. Daniel Caesar
A slick track and a great video? Yeah – that’s what’s up. The video for Time Alone With You was released today and the video uses just one spot to get the point across. The static park bench relies on creative lighting and quick cuts to get the job done. What happens is – the “day” shots have a warm yellow-brown-orange-ish hue to it and the “night” backdrop has a small bust of color in the corner acting as the moon. To me, getting creative with a single location and keeping the viewer interested is worth high praise. That’s what happened here.
After a brief lightning shower, the morning is re-built and then taken down once again. I’m always a fan of anything resembling stop motion photography. Video’s don’t always match the mood of the song. Some would say it wouldn’t be artsy enough to pull off a visual like that – I like it just the way it is. It’s artsy without trying to be.
Sort of like the song. It doesn’t have movement just for the sake of having movement. This fantastically produced track moves through different cycles – just like its video. Jacob and Daniel work together so well, it totally gave me a Digable Planets meets P.M. Dawn meets Blackstreet feel. That’s the creative buzz I’m grooving on with this song. Oh and there’s one tiny thing that happens several times in the song but the first time it happens – they totally had me, forever. “You’re so good, so bright. You’re all I see.“ That one note. So nice.
