New Listen: Vin 90 – Blue Continent

The Nashville based alt-pop duo Vin 90, comprised of Chase Weber and Dan Alber announce themselves with the well put together and vibey track – Blue Continent.

The production of the song is one of my favorite aspects.  Blue Continent has a few things going for it that make it really appealing and very listenable.  

I liked the drum pattern they’ve installed here.  It moves the listener but doesn’t take over the song.  The guitars are extra special as they sort of orbit around your head when listening in earbuds.  It’s a nice pan left and pop right that give them space.

They also use techniques that give this track a modern top 40 feel.  Pitch benders, timely auto-tune and smooth harmonies really make this one soar.  The chorus is an absolute highlight for me.

Vin 90 is set to release their EP ‘Summer In Our Dreams’ on December 30, 2020 – New Year’s Eve via Hardspeak Records.

The effortlessly flowing five-song Summer In Our Dreams was made almost entirely over the internet in the summer of 2020 while the world was hit with the COVID-19 pandemic. “For some, it’s a song—and an album—about a year defined by loss of human experiences,” shares Alber. “With lockdown in full force, a summer full of hangs at the pool and vacation to the beach quickly revealed itself to be something that we could only dream of. For me, it’s a song—and an album—about the unexpected loss of a relationship. . .the summer I saw looming on the horizon, full of day trips and night walks to the grocery, quickly became something I would only dream of.”

“Making Vin 90 remotely over Dropbox continued to be the only option we had at the time,” says Alber who since crafting their debut EP was spending a lot of time on tour performing with Lennon Stella on the “World War Joy Tour” with the Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds of Summer. Then arrived quarantine and social distancing. “I ended up sending a lot of files to Dan,” adds Weber. The two would bounce ideas, files and suggestions back-and-forth until they arrived at the final Summer In Our Dreams track listing.
