Rebelution Rewards Fans With “Rebelution Dub Collection”

Review by Jessica Frey

With 15 years under their belts, Rebelution has rewarded their fans with a Dub album with “Rebelution Dub Collection” composed of many fan favorites bringing us something new yet very familiar. The Rebelution album, which was a collaboration between the band’s 87 Music and Easy Star Records, boasts 15 songs on the album all with alternative mixes for deep rooted fans and newcomers alike.

Dub is a tradition in Reggae that mostly drops instrumentation and vocals in and out, while also layering effects like reverb and delay creating something familiar and new. “We thought about putting out a dub version of our last album, Free Rein, and then realized this would be a better idea,” says Eric Rachmany. “There’s so many of our old songs that deserve a dub version. We know our fans love the early Rebelution material so this seemed appropriate.”

With concerts and live events cancelled across the nation, many of us are vying for that connection with our favorite music. Rebelution fans may be among the hardest hit with the cancellations since for so many, fans will pack amphitheaters across the country each summer to hear some great reggae.  This dub album may just help satisfy your yearning with new arrangements and bests, sometimes with a very different overall vibe.  I think the Rebelution community will love this album.

Here are some of Rebelution’s biggest accomplishments so far;

  • Their debut album “Courage to Grow” reached #4 on the Billboard Reggae Chart.

  • Their 2012 release, “Peace of Mind”, debuted at #13 on the Billboard Top 200, hit #1 on both the Reggae and Independent Charts, and was the #4 iTunes album overall.

  • 2014’s “Count Me In” entering the Reggae Chart at #1 and the Billboard Overall Chart at #14.

  • Then came the Grammy-nominated album “Falling Into Place” and the Rebelution concert experience, “Live At Red Rocks”.

  • Their sixth studio album, “Free Rein”, debuted at #5 on iTunes Top 100 albums chart, entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at #41 and took the coveted #1 spot on Billboard’s Reggae chart.

  • Rebelution boasts an impressive 235 million+ spins on their Top 10 Spotify tracks alone.

  • They recently celebrated a successful second annual installment of their own four-night destination event on the beach in Jamaica – Bright Side Festival.
