The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime Show to Have Documentary on Showtime

The Weeknd – The Show

Showtime has announced that they will be releasing a documentary detailing the months of preparation leading The Weeknd’s 2021 Super Bowl Halftime performance. The 90-minute feature documentary will be directed by Emmy nominee Nadia Hallgren and will be titled “The Show”. Nadia Hallgren directed the 2020 documentary “Becoming” that followed former First Lady Michelle Obama on her 34-city book tour supporting her 2018 memoir of the same name.

“The Show” will show how much work and preparation goes into producing the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show that was seen by almost 100 million people. The documentary will also show all of the collaboration between executive producer Jesse Collins, Roc Nation, and everyone else that was needed in order to pull off The Weeknd’s performance. For Jessie Collins it was his first time producing the halftime show and it was Roc Nation’s second time producing the show.

Pepsi’s VP of Marketing, Todd Kaplan, said, “The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is undoubtedly the world’s biggest stage, producing the most viewed and talked about moment in music every single year. The pressure to deliver an iconic, memorable and entertaining performance is felt well beyond the artist, as there are a number of people – behind the scenes – who are vital to its success. With our new documentary coming to Showtime, we are taking fans on the emotional and thrilling journey of what it takes to make the biggest show of the year – with the added complexity of doing so amidst a global pandemic.”

“This historic year with Jesse Collins as the first Black EP of the Halftime Show brought an opportunity to tell a new story,” said director Nadia Hallgren. “We get a window into the process of a diverse team of executives and creatives working at the highest level, in front of and behind the camera. It’s fun to see these masters at work while they also uplift others. I hope this can inspire people to pursue big dreams.”

There is currently no release date for the documentary but you can watch the trailer below.
