NEW EP A FEW BRIEF MOMENTS SLATED FOR RELEASE
ON JUNE 5TH VIA WONMORE/ISLAND RECORDS
Yoste shares one of his most introspective and relatable releases yet with new piercing track, “How It Was” out today via Wonmore/Island Records. “How It Was” doesn’t just bristle with enduring afflictions such as disconnect and anxiety, it’s also full of hope as a result of unconditional love which is just what the doctor ordered during a pandemic. Amplified by its mid-tempo electropop that is sure to creep into audience’s subconscious, “How It Was” tales of youthful disaffection and the importance of leaning on others around you to help navigate life’s potentially paralyzing ailments as the young singer vents about being “still young and full of doubt.” “How It Was” is without a doubt a catalyst for love.
The track follows his most recent release “Boredom,” a song Yoste describes as a “defeatist yet optimistic sentiment all wrapped together” perfectly executed through its thesis statement of a hook “could get better/but I don’t like to try.” Both “How It Was” and “Boredom” come off his upcoming EP, A Few Brief Moments, due out June 5th. Earlier this year, Yoste released the first track off the EP “You Can’t Fix Me,” which tackles the harsh realities of toxic relationships, both within oneself and between people, from the vantage point of a someone on the cusp of adulthood. The entire EP was written by and large in Yoste’s Brisbane apartment, with co-production coming from Konstantin Kersting (of Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” fame) in The Valley Underground studio.
“My current music is about being young, when you’re an adult but there are still enormous mistakes you can make. Introspection is huge for me, and in my new songs I’m trying to be more direct and less esoteric: relationship breakdowns, mental health struggles and drugs, young people struggling, highs and lows, trying to figure it all out.” – Yoste
